My research interests include thermoregulation responses to exercise in different climatic environments. In particular, the role of the cardiovascular system under thermal stress and the limits to prolonged submaximal exercise in the heat. Other research interests include the effect of dietary manipulations and eccentric muscle damage on exercise performance.
I am a keen cyclist and advocate exercise thoughout the lifespan as a preventative measure against chronic disease arising from a sedentary lifestyle...........not to mention it is also heaps of fun! :)

Dr Michael Cole
Dr Michael Cole started with the School of Exercise Science at the Australian Catholic University in January 2011 as a lecturer in Motor Control and Neural Function. Michael has an extensive background in the fields of biomechanics and exercise science, with a specific interest in the areas of neuroscience and sports and clinical biomechanics.
In 2011, Michael was awarded a post-doctoral training fellowship from the National Health & Medical Research Council to carry out a project aimed at improving insight into potential neuromuscular deficits that contribute to poor postural control and falls in people with Parkinson's disease. Currently, Michael's other research focuses on i) developing non-invasive techniques for assessing knee loads during the golf swing and ii) establishing the lumbosacral loads involved with office-based tasks.

Dr Sharon Licqurish
I am a lecturer in midwifery at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, St Patrick's Campus. My midwifery practice experience began in hospital and team midwifery models of care. Later I worked in Birth Centres and then as a midwife in private practice. I am a passionately woman-centered midwife and hope that my style of care empowers women and allows them choice and control over their childbearing and parenting experience.
I began working ACU in 2006 as a lecturer in midwifery. My teaching style and philosophy reflects my midwifery practice philosophy: I aim to guide students to become women-centered and professional midwives, who are compassionate and reflective, as well as are competent for beginning practice.
I completed my PhD in 2011. My thesis exploed how and when Bachelor of Midwifery students achieve competency for beginning practice. The study was conducted using a contemporary approach to grounded theory methodology. I have also worked on a project exploring midwives' perceptions of clinical risk management and womens' perceptions and expectations of the 'birth space' in a Melbourne metropolital hospital.
My research interests centre around the childbearing experience, midwifery practice issues and improving clinical outcomes for women as well as student midwife experiencs and comptency development.
